FEGA & Schmitt is an important and innovative partner of openpack. The electrical wholesaler believes in the platform concept of openpack and therefore sells its range via the “one-stop shop”.

FEGA & Schmitt serves the electrical craft businesses, electrical trade, industry, and facility sectors. The success story began in 1943 when the “Schmitt electrical wholesa- ler” was founded, followed by the foundati- on of “FEGA electrical wholesaler” in 1978. In 1996 both companies were acquired by the “Würth Group” and merged in 2009 into the “FEGA & Schmitt Elektrogroßhandel GmbH”. The extensive range includes over 650.000 items and 36 different categories from the field of electrical engineering.

The concept of the marketplace

First business contact between openpack and FEGA & Schmitt, with the final result of adding FEGA & Schmitt as a valuable vendor to the openpack marketplace, was establis- hed by our common customer Klingele Paper & Packaging Group. This partnership resulted on the following fact: “openpack marketplace” is on its way to become the industry’s central procurement platform. Throughout the marketplace, users can

find all items from spare parts to office supplies that otherwise needed to be ordered in a variety of online shops or telephonically. The concept follows the principle of “one-stop-shop”, which means that customers can quickly complete their purchases via a platform and a single, shared shopping cart. In the near future, the EDI integration in the marketplace will ensure further optimization of the purcha- sing processes for all customers and ven- dors. It all results in a clear advantage of a one-stop platform – being able to commu- nicate with all partners involved trough one source!

To simplify the purchasing process
The path of two companies crossed, which both have made it their mission to remove the complexity and to facilitate purchasing processes – true to the FEGA & Schmitt company slogan, “We make it easy.”

FEGA & Schmitt has been a proud and valuable vendor at the marketplace since 2021, and is developing new ideas for the platform in conjunction with openpack. The company based out of Ansbach clearly sees the approach of open- pack, which wants to advance machine data digitalization, as a necessary basis for all further developments. Not only for the development of new machines, but above all for less digitalized existing machines in order to ensure the highest possible productivity and availability. “The overall performance and opportunities convinced us,” explains Jens Schruttke.

“Not necessarily the classic ‘Order & Pay’ platform in itself, but addressing the topics of machine digitalization and IIoT in connection with the classic MRO (Maintenance, Repair & Operations) range for a specific industry, the corrugated cardboard and packaging industry.”

Extensive range for the electrical needs in the corrugated cardboard factory!

The company’s assortment profitably expands the mar- ketplace portfolio and custo- mers now have over 1 million items to choose from. The first orders from openpack users have already been placed: openpack customer Klingele has been processing its C-parts requirements in the electrical sector via the marketplace, since the integration of the FEGA & Schmitt. FEGA & Schmitt is even an official pilot partner of open- pack for the subject of “EDI connection”.

“The cooperation gives us a direct access to the corrugated cardboard manufacturers. Additionally, our range of products and services, and openpack’s know-how in the corrugated cardboard industry complements each other very well”.

Next steps towards digitalization
FEGA & Schmitt continues to rely on openpack’s wealth of knowledge in the field of digitalization and software technology. In addition to the marketplace, a more intensive cooperation is also planned in other areas. These relate to the product upgrade box and the topics of post-networking and the range of services for the topic of energy consultati- on.

At this time, FEGA & Schmitt is primarily looking for suitable solutions in the field of preventive maintenance. From the company’s point of view, it is imperative to consider processes in the context of preventive maintenance.

The aim is to develop models and solutions that detect machine anomalies at an early stage in order to initiate a targeted

maintenance measure. By establishing a cooperation with openpack, an invaluable partner has been found with whom these goals can be pursued together.

FEGA & Schmitt is looking forward to develo- ping industry-specific solutions for customers with openpack.

In conclusion, Mr. Jens Schruttke said about the cooperation with the openpack team: “We like the fact that we were given the trust from the beginning to actively contribute our know- how, but above all we value the constructive cooperation based on this partnership. This is reflected in the professional appearance on the platform. The positive experiences during the onboarding for this project provokes a lot of desire for a more intensive cooperation. ”
